The Pokrovskaya Historical and Local History Scientific and Practical Conference, organized within the framework of the regional stage of the International and Republican Christmas Educational Readings, was held in Vitebsk.
The event was initiated by the Department of Religious Education and Catechesis of the Vitebsk Diocese, the Education Department of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee and the Vitebsk City Center for Additional Education for Children and Youth.
Employees of the Vitebsk Regional Library named after V. Lenin actively participated in the work of the conference jury.
The first day, October 30, was devoted to the topic of «Orthodox Local History in the Vitebsk Land», where librarian Ekaterina Pankevich evaluated the performances of high school students and students of the Vitebsk Theological Seminary within the framework of the Vitebsk City Children's and Youth Conference.
The presentations of teachers and museum staff on the topic of «Spiritual and Moral Development and Education as the Basis for Raising a Citizen and Patriot of Belarus» on the second day, October 31, were assessed by the head of the general reading room, Tatyana Pototskaya, as part of the jury.
The conference brought together more than 45 people who, in their reports, showed a keen interest in the history of their country and discussed current issues of spiritual, moral and civic-patriotic education of youth.
Tatyana Pototskaya presented the multimedia project «Patron Saints of the Vitebsk Region», created within the framework of the «Living Word of Spiritual Wisdom» program. This electronic resource is designed to stimulate new local history research and deepen the knowledge of young people about the Orthodox culture, history and traditions of the region. The availability of information helps researchers to reveal unique aspects of the history of the Vitebsk region and strengthens ties between generations, contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage.
