On July, 27 within the framework of the project «Together!», participants of the championship of the Republic of Belarus in mini-football among totally blind athletes (category B1) visited the regional library.
Athletes from Brest, Vitebsk, Gomel and Grodno had a chance to assess the accessibility of the library environment and information resources for users with disabilities.
The Rare Book Department introduced the guests with rare editions from the library's collections. The visitors not only learned a lot of interesting things about the national book culture, but also had a unique opportunity to «see» with their hands the editions. They did not hide their emotions when they turned the pages of the facsimile of the Polotsk Gospel (XIII century), carefully touched the oldest book in the library (1806) or marveled at the tiny size of editions from the collection of miniature books.
During the meeting the issues of cooperation between the regional library and various public organizations for the purpose of socialization, development of communication skills and creative abilities of people with disabilities were discussed. Larisa Tuminskaya, head of the theater club «Prem'era» from Vitebsk, shared her experience in this area.
The meeting was decorated with a poetic performance by Kristina Kuzmitskaya, a sportswoman from Brest.
