On January 14, 2024 the Head of the Vitebsk Regional Library Tatyana Adamyan and Director of the State Memorial Historical, Literary and Natural Landscape Museum-Reserve of A. S. Pushkin «Mikhailovskoye» Georgy Vasilevich opened the exhibition «Pushkin and Gogol».
The exhibition presents a series of graphic works by a sculptor, graphic artist and poet from Yekaterinburg Nikolai Predein. Nikolai Petrovich was born in Transurals, in Kurgan region. In 1986 he graduated from the Sverdlovsk evening art school. Since 1997 N. Predein has been a member of the Union of Russian Artists. His works are located in the Pushkin State Museum-Reserve «Mikhailovskoye» (Pskov region), in the Museum of Leo Tolstoy (Moscow), the Theater Museum of A. Bakhrushin (Moscow) and others. Predein is the author of the golden statuette «Casta Diva» (Russian Opera Award) and the prize «Diaghilev» of the international festival «Diaghilev Seasons. Perm-St. Petersburg-Paris». The artist is the author of illustrations for the edition of N. Gogol's poem «Dead Souls», published in 2009 in Moscow to mark the 200th anniversary of the writer. The poems by Nikolai Predein are regularly published in the magazines «Ural» and «Novy Mir». The author donated his album entitled «Sculpture. Graphics. Photography. Poems» to the library. Since 2011, the artist's works have regularly participated in mobile exhibition projects of the Pushkin Reserve in Russia, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Germany, and the Republic of Belarus.
Pushkin Reserve organized an exhibition for the artist's 70th anniversary in 2021. Today, the collection of the museum-reserve contains over three hundred works by Nikolai Petrovich. These are series of graphic works «Pushkin», «Nikolai Gogol», «Fairy tale writers», «Portraits of Russian writers», «Writers», «Brodsky», «Gogoliana», as well as a series of illustrations to the works of Alexander Pushkin: «Eugene Onegin», «Little Tragedies», «The Captain's Daughter», «Queen of Spades», «Boris Godunov», «The Bronze Horseman».
Expressive black-and-white illustrations to Pushkin's works were made in 2015-2016. According to the author, the images appeared on paper «quite spontaneously, as if I was calling them - they replied, appearing on the white paper with lines, strokes, splashes and blobs...». The technique chosen by the artist makes the line free, the sheet more lively, and the characters more mobile and expressive.
This exhibition reminds viewers of the works of Alexander Pushkin and Nikolai Gogol, of their favorite literary heroes as well as encourages them to open and read the books that have forever formed the basis of the collections of libraries in different parts of the world. According to the idea of the creators, it is designed to unite different generations of readers in different cities and countries.
The exhibition is organized within the framework of the cooperation agreement between the regional library and the Pushkin Reserve and will last until March 3 in the Department of Art Literature.
