Methodological Conference of English Language Teachers: Functional Literacy and New Methodological Publications

A methodological conference of English language teachers was held on December 29 at Secondary School № 41. The central theme of the meeting was literacy – linguistic, reading, and financial.
Particular attention was paid to the concept of functional literacy, which implies a person's ability to use knowledge and skills in real-life situations.
Functional literacy promotes critical thinking and helps people adapt to modern challenges, becoming an essential prerequisite for a fulfilling life in society.
During the event, teachers learned about innovative methodological recommendations and techniques for teaching functional literacy in English lessons. Irina Shantseva, Head of the Foreign Language Publications Department at the Vitebsk Regional Library, presented the latest methodological materials and discussed the department's activities.
The positive atmosphere of the meeting was enhanced by a song performed by Angelina Morozova, a 6th-grade student at Secondary School № 41. The meeting concluded with a creative workshop: participants tried their hand at decorating gingerbread cookies with egg white and sugar icing.
The event combined professional networking, experience sharing, and creative spirit, emphasizing the importance of developing functional literacy in the educational process.
