Presentation of Arkady Podlipsky's book «They are almost our fellow countrymen»

The presentation of local historian Arkady Podlipsky's new book, «They are almost our fellow countrymen», took place at the library on December 11th as part of the «Local History Meetings» project.
The author dedicated the publication to the memory of Sergei Rublevsky, the founder and longtime editor of the regional newspaper «Narodnae Slova». It was with his recollections that Arkady Podlipsky began the meeting.
In the new edition, Arkady Mikhailovich tells of famous or very well-known people whose relatives – fathers or mothers, husbands or wives – were born in Vitebsk. According to the author, such people can be considered «almost fellow countrymen». The book's heroes include actors and writers, scientists and journalists, filmmakers and musicians, and successful businessmen.
During the presentation, Arkady P. spoke about some of them: film actresses Viya Artman and Zhanna Prokhorenko; actor Gottlieb Roninson; animator Fyodor Khitruk; Nobel laureate Alan Heeger; billionaires Armand Hammer and Sergey Brin.
The new book is another contribution to preserving cultural memory and strengthening Vitebsk's connection with the names of people who have made a name for themselves in various fields.
