Board of Directors Meeting «Libraries in the information society: generating digital resources and cultural meanings»

The meeting of the Board of Directors of public libraries of the Vitebsk Region, «Libraries in the information society: generating digital resources and cultural meanings», was held on December 11. Representatives of the National Library of Belarus were guests of the regional library and participants of the meeting.
Tatyana Adamyan, Director of the Vitebsk Regional Library, opened the event. Lyudmila Vysotskaya, Deputy Director General of the National Library of Belarus – Director for Ideology, Sociocultural, and Publishing Activities, who oversees the Vitebsk Regional Library and public libraries of the Vitebsk Region, addressed the participants with welcoming remarks, emphasizing the role of such meetings and outlining plans for further collaboration.
Irina Kuketa, Head of the Research Department of Library Science at the National Library of Belarus, introduced colleagues to the National Library of Belarus's methodological developments to support public libraries in the country. Oksana Buychik, Head of the Digital Collections Development Sector of the Electronic Library Development Department, presented information about the National Library's electronic collections. The meeting also discussed current issues of library statistics and accounting, participation in professional competitions, digitization of publications, and collection acquisition. The results of the regional competition for local history electronic resources of public libraries in the Vitebsk region were summarized.
The Board of Directors not only provided a platform for professional networking but also made a significant contribution to preserving the historical legacy of the Great Victory. A keynote address at the meeting was delivered by Vladimir Terentyev, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Marshal of the Soviet Union I. Bagramyan Foundation for the Preservation of Historical Memory, who presented the unique album «Marshal Bagramyan». The publication contains rare photographs, documents, and materials revealing the life of the outstanding commander and his military achievements. The albums have been donated to the collections of regional libraries. The meeting concluded with a cultural program – a performance of the play «Gifts of the Heart» by the Batleyka Theater of the regional library.
