
Panel discussion dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of David Simanovich

On June 23, a panel discussion «One Day This Town Adopted Me» dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of the poet, prose writer, translator, public figure, David Simanovich, took place in the Vitebsk Regional Library.
The Library Director, Tatyana Adamyan, addressed the guests with a welcoming speech and talked about some activities involving the Regional Library, dedicated to David Simanovich. Elena Bondareva, the Head of the Department of Information Retrieval Systems and Automated Archival Technologies of the State Archives of the Vitebsk Region, talked about bountiful papers of the writer, and made an electronic presentation «Review of D. Simanovich's Personal Documents Stored in the Office of the State Archives of the Vitebsk Region». Moreover, for the anniversary of David Simanovich, the archivists organized an exhibition «... Creating My Soul Portrait Contrasted with the Century» that was presented at the event. And, for good measure, the librarians organized an exhibition of autographs by David Simanovich, and a book exhibition «The Genius of the Place».
David Simanovich made a lot of efforts to bring Marc Chagall's name back to Vitebsk. The Marc Chagall Museum Director, Irina Voronova, gave a talk on the topic «David Simanovich, and the Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk» carried on by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk, Lyudmila Khmelnitskaya, in her speech «D. Simanovich, and the Return of Marc Chagall».
Elena Kriklivets, Doctor of Philology, the Head of Literature Department of the Vitebsk State University named after P. M. Masherov, gave a talk on the topic «Lyric Poetry of D. Simanovich with Reference to the Anthology of Modern Russian Poetry of Belarus "Poetry of the Russian Word"». The Director of «Sputnik» Bureau of International Youth Tourism in Vitebsk, Sergey Galuzo, spoke about the role of David Simanovich in establishing foreign contacts. Arkady Shulman, a journalist and writer, gave a report on «Translations of David Simanovich from Yiddish».
During the event, the poems of David Simanovich were performed by the participants of the Internet project #readSimanovich - residents of Vitebsk and Naroulia (the birthplace of David Simanovich). The panel discussion hosts, a poet Oleg Seshko and the Head of the Local History Department Larisa Rogacheva, invited everyone to join the anniversary events dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of David Simanovich, which will last until the end of the year.
