Literary and musical meeting «Soul Generous for Happiness»

On June 7, the library held a literary and musical meeting «Soul Generous for Happiness» dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the birth of the poet, prose writer, honorary member of the Union of Writers of Belarus Boris Belezhenko.

Tamara Krasnova-Gusachenko, the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Branch of the Union of Writers of Belarus, talked about Boris Belezhenko's major contribution to literature, his writer's voice found in many literary genres, and about his books. Making his way up from a senior pioneer leader in the Shumilinsky District, being in charge of the Chashniki District Department of Popular Education, working as a Deputy Chair of the Chashniki District Executive Committee, to the Divisional Manager of the Press, Television, and Radio Division of the Vitebsk Regional Party Committee, Boris Belezhenko stepped up as an involved and civic-minded member of society.

The Deputy Head of the Main Department for Ideological Work and Youth Affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Pyotr Gnutenko, drew the attention of those present to this side of Boris Belezhenko's life and read the poet's poem «When the Victory Came to My Village». The theme of the writer's wartime childhood most vividly explored in his last book «Trip from Bacheykava to Beshankovichy» was also touched upon by the host of the meeting, the Head of the Department of Local History, Larisa Rogacheva.

Boris Belezhenko was a welcome guest in the libraries of our region. Larisa Pivchevskaya, a librarian of the Bacheykava Rural Library named after B. P. Belezhenko, talked about his memory to be sealed in his home area, and read the poem «I am from Belarus, from near Bacheykava...». A librarian and poetess Valentina Shirinova recalled her meetings with Boris Belezhenko in the Central City Library named after M. Gorky. The writers - members of the Vitebsk Regional Branch of the Union of Writers of Belarus such as Nikolay Namestnikov, Olga Rusilko, Andrey Gerashchenko, Irina Radikhovskaya also said their word about Boris Belezhenko.

The founder of the Vitebsk Youth Choir Vitaly Rauzo reminded of his songs with lyrics by Boris Belezhenko, which are performed at many contests. An artist Oleg Kiryushkin shared his memories of an older friend. Lyudmila Stankevich, a member of «Syabroustva» club, recited the poet's poems emotionally and greatly.

A brilliant performance of the amateur folk band «Krynitsa» from the Bacheykava Village Community Center was a gift to the famous fellow countryman and to all the participants of the meeting.
