Regional Workshop «Public Libraries of Vitebsk Oblast: Their Regional Aspects and Development Priorities».

From March, 30 till April, 1 the library hosted a three days' regional workshop for the directors of district and municipal networks of public libraries called «Public Libraries of Vitebsk Oblast: Their Regional Aspects and Development Priorities».
The workshop brought together directors and specialists from the Main Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the National Library of Belarus, the Vitebsk Regional Organization of the Trade Union of Cultural Workers of Belarus and the Vitebsk Regional Center of Legal Information.
Denis Yurchak, Chief Specialist in the Main Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, welcomed the participants of the workshop. His welcoming remarks were followed by introductory statements by Tatyana Adamyan, Director of the Vitebsk Regional Library named after V. I. Lenin, and M. Pshybytko, Head of the Research Department of Library Science in the National Library of Belarus.
The workshop was focused on discussing current questions about the activities of public libraries in the legal environment and library statistics in the electronic environment. The main purpose of the round table was to establish the basic vectors of further development of Vitebsk region libraries in the Year of Culture and to bring the organization of labor safety operations in the cultural establishments to the administration's notice.
As part of the workshop a ceremony of awarding of winners of the republican contest «Library Is an Environment of National Culture» took place. There was also an awarding ceremony for the active participants of the international project «Support Chekhov!», a project for the creation of an online quote book to contain quotations of the classic of Russian literature in support of the nature, environment and life.
The employees of the Vitebsk Regional Library set up an exhibition of works of the libraries that had taken part in the regional round of the republican contest «Library Is an Environment of National Culture» and an exhibition of professional books entitled as «Modern Library: Focus on the Effectiveness».
On the 31st of March, on the eve of the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia the participants of the workshop and the directors of the networks of public libraries visited the Smolensk Regional Universal Library named after A. T. Tvardovsky. The working visit was part of the Year of Culture and was carried out with the support of the Vitebsk Regional Organization of the Trade Union of Cultural Workers of Belarus. The guests were greeted by O. Maltseva, Director of the Smolensk Regional Universal Library named after A. T. Tvardovsky, I. Shkurlov, Head of the Section of Museums, Libraries and Information Technologies of the Department of Culture and Tourism in Smolensk Region, and Ch. Shulga, Head of the Smolensk Branch of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Russian Federation. The administration of the libraries participated in a round table entitled «Libraries in Cross-Border Territories: Cooperation for Innovative Development» and signed an Agreement on Collaboration between libraries of the regions.
During the visit, the representatives of both libraries exchanged printed publications. The funds of the Vitebsk Regional Library were completed by a 45-volume publication «Smolensk Land in the Monuments of Russian Literature» which had been printed with the support of the charity fund «System» and devoted to the 1150th anniversary of Smolensk. The publication brings together the works of the most notorious Smolensk poets from the 11th century till the present day. It includes Avraamkin's Chronicle, «The History of the Town of Smolensk» by Nikifor Murzakevich, the works by N. I. Khmelnitsky, M. N. Muravyov, A. A. Shakhovsky, F. I. Dmitriyev-Mamonov and M. I. Glinka.
In its turn, the Vitebsk Regional Library donated to the libraries of the region of Smolensk an authoritative edition «Book Heritage of Belarus», illustrated albums devoted to the International Festival of Arts «Slavic Bazaar in Vitebsk» provided by the Municipal Institution «Cultural Center "Vitebsk"», and bibliographic output of the regional library.
The delegation paid a visit to the municipal libraries of Smolensk and the library of Smolensk State University.
