The presentation of the book «Essays on the History of the Vitebsk Region» by Associate Professor of the Department of Law and Social and Humanitarian Disciplines of the Vitebsk branch of the International University «MITSO», Candidate of Historical Sciences Tatyana Ivanova took place in the regional library on December 19 as part of the «Local History Meetings» series.
Tatyana Ivanova specializes in the study of the state and law of Belarus, and also explores the history of the trade union movement and the Vitebsk region. The first part of her essays was published in 2015. The book «Essays on the History of the Vitebsk Region» is dedicated to the 1050th anniversary of Vitebsk and includes 50 essays written by the author over the past ten years.
During the presentation, Tatyana I. spoke about her first steps in local history and how the topics for her books «Activities of Local Authorities of the Vitebsk Province in October 1917 – March 1924» (2011) and «The Problem of Refugees in the Vitebsk Province During the First World War and Subsequent Years (Belarus, 1914–1924)» (2016) were formed. She dwelt in detail on the content of «Essays on the History of the Vitebsk Region», paying special attention to the heroes and topics that were most interesting to her.
Deputy Director of the State Archives of the Vitebsk Region Tatyana Buevich noted the careful and painstaking work of Tatyana Ivanova with archival materials.
Director of the regional library Tatyana Adamyan shared her thoughts on the importance and significance of local history research for a more complete understanding of the rich spiritual heritage of our country and its outstanding personalities. In the near future, a new book on local history of the Vitebsk region will be available in the library collection.
