The presentation of the book by Arkady Podlipsky «Lazar Lagin and his "Old Man Hottabych"», dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of the local writer, took place on December 7 in the regional library.
Arkady Podlipsky carefully traced the life path of the writer and journalist and talked about the tragic and heroic pages of his fate.
Lazar Lagin – a front-line writer, a participant in the defense of Odessa, Kerch, Sevastopol, Novorossiysk, the liberation of Romania, awarded orders and medals for courage and heroism.
In his book Arkady Mikhailovich talks about the famous children's fairy tale «Old Man Hottabych» and other works by Lazar Lagin, notes his attentive attitude to young authors, including the Strugatsky brothers, Anatoly Aleksin and others and mentions the honoring of the writer's memory.
Svetlana Kozlova, a local historian and a former head of the Vitebsk Literary Museum spoke at the presentation. Svetlana Nikolaevna talked about the fund of Lazar Lagin, kept in the Vitebsk Regional Local Lore Museum, her meetings with his daughter Natalia Lagina, as well as some mysteries connected with the writer's visit to Vitebsk.
The new book by Arkady Podlipsky is the first profound research devoted to Lazar Lagin, which not only reveals the figure of the famous writer to the reader, but also gives impetus to new searches in this direction.
