The Pulitzer Prize is a prestigious award that was established in 1917 in the United States. According to the will of the American publisher and journalist Joseph Pulitzer, the prize is awarded for works created by American authors in the fields of journalism, literature, music and theater. The award has also been given since 1942 in the field of photojournalism. The Pulitzer Prize in Literature is awarded in five literary nominations: fiction prose, history, biography or autobiography, poetry and nonfiction. Some of the winners in fiction are now considered classics: Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, Nell Harper Lee and many others.
