Tactile books – for children

Within a framework of the charity program «Mercy», the «Touch» project for creation of tactile books for children with visual impairments was implemented in the library.
Soft tactile books made of cotton fabrics, wool, and braid play a special role in popularizing reading among young readers with visual impairments. The practice of using soft tactile toy books shows that preschoolers and children of primary school age get acquainted with the content of such publications with great pleasure.
The library staff created a tactile book «Counting from 1 to 10» for nursery-kindergarten № 96 in Vitebsk with a special group for children with visual impairments.
On September 15, the book was solemnly presented to young readers. Children with great pleasure flipped through the soft pages of the book and played, because there are game elements on each page of the book.
Tactile books in combination with the work of teachers-defectologists will allow children with visual impairments to join scientific knowledge, to develop thinking, and to expand their artistic and social experience. And also, these books will allow to educate the culture of reading in children from a very early age.
