On September 23, the presentation of the book «List of monuments of military glory, memorial places, military graves and graves of the Great Patriotic War victims of the Vitebsk region» took place in the library. The author is candidate of historical sciences Nikolai Pivovar.
The book is a result of multi-year research work of local historian and contains information about 285 objects on the territory of the region with descriptions and photos.
The author was congratulated on the publication of the book by the chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee Nikolai Orlov. The chief specialist of the department of culture of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Denis Yurchak noted that the prepared book is the first compilation of monuments related to the events of the Great Patriotic War in our country. There is a hope that the work in this area will be covered by other regions.
Nikolai Pivovar said that the work to identify and perpetuate is not over, and the number of identified monuments and burials is increasing. On the slides of the e-presentation prepared by the author were shown numerous monuments placed in different parts of Vitebsk district. Monuments well-known to all, such as «Vitebsk» («Surazh») gates, a monument to Anatoly Uglovsky, a monument to the children of Minay Shmyrev, and those about which know only residents of a particular region .
The necessity to involve the youth in the searching movement and bringing up patriotism was discussed by the keeper of the museum exhibits of the national museum «The history of Zaronovsky region» Lyudmila Nikitina. Lyudmila Nikitina and the head of the Vitebsk regional center of heroic and patriotic education of youth «Poshuk» Larisa Bruyeva. The head of the local history Literature and bibliography department Larisa Rogacheva told about the electronic project of historical and patriotic orientation «Liberation of Vitebsk region. 1943-1944 », created by the library staff.
The book «List of monuments of Military Glory, memorial Places, Military graves and graves of the Great Patriotic War victims of the Vitebsk Region» will soon appear in the library's fund of the Department of Local History Literature and Bibliography.
