The Ceremony of Awarding the Winners of Literary Prizes of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee for 2020 year

On December 23, the Vitebsk Regional Library hosted a solemn ceremony of awarding the winners of the Petrus Brovka Literary Prize and the Vladimir Korotkevich Literary Prize of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee for 2020.

In order to perpetuate the memory of our countryman, the national poet of Belarus Petrus Brovka, the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee in 2012 founded the «Literary Prize named after Petrus Brovka», dedicated to the Year of the Book. 25 poets, writers, local historians of the Vitebsk region have become winners of the prize over these years. According to the protocol of the commission for awarding the Petrus Brovka Literary Prize for 2020, approved by the decision of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee of December 21, 2020 № 719, it was decided to award the Petrus Brovka Literary Prize:

- in the nomination «Prose» – Zoya Novoenko for the book «Childhood in the Fog of War»;

- in the nomination «Poetry» – Galina Zagurskaya for the collection of poems «Berag zarapadau»;

- in the nomination «Literature for Children» - Maina Kuznetsova-Boboriko for the book «Elgraf and the Magic Scissors».

This year was marked by the 90th anniversary of the birth of our famous compatriot Vladimir Korotkevich, whose works continue to inspire new generations of Belarusians to study the history of Belarus, the Belarusian language, teach to love their native land. The Vladimir Korotkevich Literary Prize was founded in 2000, now it is awarded once every five years. During this time, 18 writers became prizewinners and cultural region institutions and their employees were awarded in the nomination «Propaganda of the life and work of Vladimir Korotkevich» (creation of museums, expositions, corners, staging of performances, holding literary events on the writer's work). According to the protocol of the commission for awarding the «Literary Prize named after Vladimir Korotkevich» for 2020, approved by the order of the chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee № 311r dated December 16, 2020, it was decided to divide the prize between the two nominees in the «Prose» nomination. To award the «Vladimir Korotkevich Literary Prize»:

– in the nomination «Prose» – to Anna Novoseltseva for the book «Kali tsyabe spatkae Kazka...»;

– in the nomination «Prose» – to Galina and Sergei Trafimov for the book «My native land. Orsha. Orsha District»;

– in the nomination «Poetry» – Tamara Krasnova-Gusachenko for the collection of poems «Let's live...»;

– in the nomination «Propaganda of the life and work of Vladimir Korotkevich» – to Arkady Rusetsky for many years of work to promote the life and work of Vladimir Karatkevich and the book «Uladzimir Karatkevich: Yago zorka nie zgasnie nikolі... (Sproba litaraturnaj biagrafii)»

Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Vladimir Penin awarded the winners with Diplomas and wished the writers fruitful creativity and new interesting books. The host of the festive evening, chief specialist of the culture department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Denis Yurchak performed beautifully the poems of Petrus Brovka and Vladimir Korotkevich. Tamara Krasnova-Gusachenko, the chairman of Vitebsk regional branch of the Belarusian Writers' Union, writers Arkady Rusetsky and Zoya Novoenko emphasized in their speeches the great importance of the book in upbringing the younger generation, the importance of writers' participation in the public life of the country.
