
Lecture by Alexander Ivanov «Beatrice. Choreo-symphonic cycliade»

On December 21 as a part of the librarian project «Music for Everybody», took place a lecture by composer Alexander Ivanov about one of Boris Tishchenko's works «Beatrice. Choreo-symphonic cycliade».
Choreo-symphonic cycliade «Beatrice» is a work for a full symphony orchestra that has no analogues in the world music history. This is a great ballet based on Dante's Divine Comedy, with a total duration of 3 hours and 13 minutes, consisting of five symphonies. Each of them has a clear program: the first one is dedicated to the Dante's life on the Earth, the second and third describe the Hell circles, the fourth is Purgatory, the fifth is Paradise. Work on the music continued from 1996 to 2005. The concert performance of symphonies are provided by author separately. The premiere of the first Dante-Symphony took place on March 20, 1998 in St. Petersburg, in the Philharmonic Great Hall. It was performed by the Academic Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Yuri Kochnev. This ballet has not been staged till our time.
The participants of the meeting recognized the history of creation and listened to the first part of the supersymphony «Dante-Symphony № 1 «Among the Living». Alexander Ivanov commented and explained for the audience the music scenes, which reflected: Dante's childhood, his love for Beatrice, the envy of friends, the betrayal of feelings, the death of his beloved, war and calls for peace.
The cycliade received the Government of the Russian Federation Award in Culture in 2008.
