Free Courses «Vitebsk: the real and popular history of the native town»
On February 14, a regular class within the framework of free courses «Vitebsk: the real and popular history of the native town» took place in Vitebsk Regional Library. The topic of the class was «The Red and The Black Books of Vitebsk: Fragments of Architectural Heritage». Part two.
The architects Gleb Orlovsky and Alexander Mikhailyukov continued the topic of architectural heritage of the city in their speeches and focused on the main movable property and buildings that disappeared from the city streets in the XXI century. Wrought iron gates, staircases, balcony fences, house facade decorations used to create the unique beauty of Vitebsk. Cobbled roads, street lanterns with decorations, the buildings of the late XIX – early XX centuries continue to disappear from the city map. «The Black Book» of the architecture of Vitebsk, unfortunately, is being replenished with new objects.
