The Library Day in Belarus

On September 14, 2017 a series of events dedicated to the Library Day in Belarus took place in the library. The head of the library Tatyana Adamyan congratulated readers and colleagues on the grand opening.

An exhibition-panorama of fresh books supplies in the fund of Subscribe – Leading Department «The kaleidoscope of fresh books» took place in the foyer.

Presentation of the 6th almanac edition «Dvina: Literary Vitebsk Region» became the high-profile event. The head of the Main Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee – Gennady Egorov and the Head of Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs at Vitebsk City Executive Committee – Natalya Shienok are congratulated the writers with the book release.

A big resonance was caused by the exhibition of graphics and sculptures of Smolensk artists Gennady Namerovsky and Valery Grashchenkov.

Closing address and awarding the winners of the regional exhibition-review of home-made book «Leaflets city's book», timed to the 500th anniversary of Belarusian printing was held in a solemn atmosphere. Winners received memorable prizes.

Within the framework of the holiday, the results of the photo contest «Book is My Friend» were summed up, which was conducted by the department of art literature among amateur photographers.

Students of the VSU named after P. M. Masherov held an interactive English lesson «From age to age, with a book person walks» for pupils of gymnasium №7, the event took place at Foreign Literature Department.

The employees of the electronic reading room held a workshop to involvement with Editor.Pho.to «Magic Lessons: Picture Processing» for pupils of gymnasium №5.

The event «Executors of justice» with Deputy Director of Forcible Execution of Zheleznodorozhny district of Vitebsk Olga Dashkevich and methods specialist of Vitebsk Regional Notary Chamber Olga Petrova, took place at the Department of Legal Information.

At the library lesson «Birchen Messages», pupils of Gymnasium №7 together with employees of the children's literature department made birch bark letters.

Presentations of the exhibitions: publications «Reading with enthusiasm», creative works of disabled people and elderly people «Territory of creativity» (together with Social Service Center of Zheleznodorozhny district at Vitebsk), publications printed by Braille type, for visually impaired users of the library «A fascinating world at the fingertips», audiobooks «Books that sound» (library project of the department of periodical literature «Together» ) took place specially for readers with disabilities.

The literary and musical evening «Skorina's book into eternity empty...», dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Belarusian printing, held the reading room department employees for the students of secondary schools in Vitebsk. The unique exhibition of rare editions of XIX–XX centuries «Witnesses of old times» could be seen in the same department.

Everyone interested attended the presentations of the 2nd volume collection of «Vitebsk Region», books by Konstantin Karpekin «Jewish Communities in the Belarussian SSR (January 1919 – September 1939)» and a meeting with local historian, artist, photographer Victor Borisenkov from the cycle «Local history meeting».

Workshop on manufacturing of the traditional Belarusian doll took place in the department of economic, technical and agricultural literature under the leadership of Anastasia Prudnikova. Employees of the department held the book exhibition about cooking «"Delicious" books» and tasting dishes.

Vitebsk photographer Irina Denisova presented to the library guests a personal photo exhibition.

Musical compositions performed by the teacher of children's art school №5 Yulia Sobolevskaya (violin), teacher of children's art school №4 Alexander Ovchinnikov and his students Vladislav Skopy and Polina Chernyshyova (saxophone), teachers trio of children's art school №1 (Vitebsk) Ekaterina Trusova, Anna Voloshchuk, and Andrei Zhagorov became the decoration of the holiday. They could be heard throughout the day.

Exhibitions «The World of Periodicals», «Children's Time», «Such Different Dolls», book disintegration «From Reader to Reader» were opened for the guests of the library.

For readers who speak German at German reading room worked the library market «Discover and Win!» («Entdecke und gewinne!»).

Readers of the library took part in the quiz on history of Vitebsk (based on the materials of the courses «Vitebsk: the real and popular history of native city»). More than 250 people were attended the library at that day. Holiday events for children were held in the Department of Children's Literature (Stroiteley Avenue, 10).
