Retreat «Libraries in Vitebsk Region: Present State and Development Vectors»

On 6-7 June 2017, the representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, National Library of Belarus, research and production company «INEAK» and the directors of Vitebsk regional public libraries convened a retreat in Vitebsk Region.

During the first day of the retreat, that took place at the Vitebsk Regional Library named after V.I. Lenin, the participants discussed state regulations of libraries and the prospects for their further development in Vitebsk Region. The focus was on the issues of computerization and development of virtual services, setting up corporate resources, including the creation of regional integrated catalogs (RIC). Particular attention was paid to the introduction of automated information technologies in the libraries of the region.

On June 7, the management and specialists of the National Library, Vitebsk Regional Library and the Ministry of Culture visited the libraries of the Vitebsk care facility for the elderly and disabled, and Vitebsk orphanage. The visit was carried out within the framework of the republican campaign «A book is the source of wisdom, knowledge and science...». During that visit, the libraries received a 200-book donation from the National Library of Belarus.

Following was the tour to the Mazolovo rural library, where the participants watched a bookmobile in action and explored the activities of an extended education center, operating as part of the project «Extension of economic opportunities in rural Belarus». The initiative is supported by the «New Eurasia» Foundation. As the final part of the tour, the guests paid a visit to the National Museum of Zaronovo District.
