On the 15th of December the library held a meeting with Candidate of Historical Sciences and local historian Nikolai Pivovar which was part of the library's project «Local History Meetings».
The meeting began by the warm greetings from Denis Yurchak, Chief Specialist at the Main Department of Ideology, Culture and Youth Affairs, together with Anatoly Dulov, Candidate of Historical Sciences and Head of the Department of History at Vitebsk State University named after P. M. Masherov. Journalist and writer Svetlana Dedinkina stated that Nikolai Pivovar was a prototype for a teacher character of her book «Yushka Vyalesa», and also recalled how they had worked together with the «Narodnae Slova» newspaper.
With a big dash of humor and self-irony which are part of his nature, Nikolai Pivovar told the audience how he had become a researcher of Vitebsk history and what people had stayed behind this choice. Among those people, told Nikolai Pivovar, were Vitaly Skalaban, Anatoly Dorofeev, Oleg Kurzhalov and a wide group of other local historians.
His long-time work has resulted in the publication of many books. The guest recalled how those publications had been created and what the difference between them was. Recently, the book collection of the Vitebsk Regional Library has received another paper by Nikolai Pivovar – «Local History of Belarus in 1961–1991ss». Before long there will be another publication by the researcher, entitled as «50 Museums of Vitebsk». The author promised to hold the book-launch presentation at the Regional Library.
