Dedicated to the Library Day in Belarus
On September 15, 2016 the library hosted festivities devoted to the Library Day in Belarus. At the opening ceremony Tatyana Adamyan, Director of the library, and Denis Yurchak, Chief Specialist of the Main Department for Ideology, Culture and Youth Affair congratulated both colleagues and readers.
The library's hall hosted a traditional exhibition of new books from the Subscription Department called «Welcome to the World of a Book!», the visitors could listened to classic melodies performed by a folk ensemble «Contrast» from the Children Art School No.4, a violin ensemble and soloist Yevgeny Baydak (saxophone) from the Children Art School named after A. Bogatyryov.
There were also outdoor presentations of periodicals from the library's collection and the collection of the Department of Foreign Literature. All interested people had the opportunity to visit book exhibitions and participate in library's events and a quiz «Vitebsk and Cinema».
The keynote of that special day was the subject «From a Book to a Movie». There were the opening of a photo exhibition «Belarusian Actors in Russian Cinema, Russian Actors in Belarusian Cinema» set up in cooperation with employees of the library of Smolensk State University, and the presentation of an exhibition «The Book Reanimates in a Cinema Shot», displaying artifacts provided by the Unitary Enterprise «Kinovideoprokat» of Vitebsk Region Executive Committee.
The Department of Art Literature hosted a meet-an-artist event with Lyudmila Peregudova, editor-in-chief of the «Na Ecranakh» magazine, and Julia Leshko, writer and scenarist, and organized a meeting with Galina Bukatina and Tamara Skvortsova - actors of the National Academic Drama Theater named after Y. Kolas who shared their experience as cinema actors. The employees of the Department of Children Literature set a theatrical literary lesson for their young readers named «From Book Pages to the Screen: Great and Mighty Khottabych» and prepared a cartoon guide for the youngest ones called «Through the Pages of Beloved Books».
This day the library also saw the opening of an exhibition of children's drawings «A Book Gives a Dream» made by pupils of the fine arts studio «Sozvezdie» of Vitebsk Municipal Center of Additional Education of Children and Youth. There was also the presentation of a library's project «Together!» (for readers with disabilities). The Reading Room of German Literature organized events for school students who study German. The employees also offered excursions in the German language through the library for all interested. There were also the presentation of the interactive exposition «Ecological Thinking: Learning from the Nature», prepared in cooperation with Goethe Institut in Minsk and the opening of the exposition of collages by artist Oleg Kroshkin as part of the project «New Life of Old Books».
The Department of Local History Literature and Bibliography held the presentation of a book «Yany Naradzilisya na Sennenshchynye» («They Were Born in Senno Land») by Alexander Baranovsky, a master's student of the Department of History of Belarus of VSU named after P.M. Masherov, and the presentation of the collection book «Vitebsky Kray» – the proceedings of the International Research-to-Practice Conference devoted to the 170th anniversary of N.Y. Nikiforovsky.
More than 500 students of Vitebsk educational institutions had an opportunity to take part in excursions and guides throughout the library, get acquainted with its history, structural departments, informational resources and services.
