
Mobile Photo Exhibition «War Didn`t Pass My Homeland»

To the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus
The traveling photo exhibition «The War Did Not Pass By My Land» was opened at the library as part of the Agreement of Сooperation between regional universal libraries located at the border areas of CIS-countries signed by the Vitebsk Regional Library named after V. I. Lenin and the Smolensk Regional Library named after A. T. Tvardovski.
The exhibition shows rare photos of Vitebsk and Smolensk at their prewar, war and postwar times, provided by the funds of the Smolensk State Memorial Estate, the Vitebsk Regional Local History Museum, private collections and the fund of the city of Hagen (Germany).
At the opening ceremony Director of the Vitebsk Regional Library Tatyana Adamyan announced this project to be the beginning of joint work with Russian colleagues which had been discussed earlier, during the visit of the Belarusian delegation to Smolensk.
Director of the Smolensk Regional Universal Library named after A. T. Tvardovski Olga Maltseva stressed the importance of the exhibition for the peoples of Russia and Belarus who share a common war history. The significance of the project was also emphasized by Senior Specialist of the Central Department for Ideology, Culture and Youth Affairs Denis Yurchak and Deputy Director for Science of the Vitebsk Regional Local History Museum Valeri Shyshanov.
The opening of the exhibition at the library attracted historians, specialists in local history and employees from the municipal cultural and educational institutions. The Vitebsk Regional Library will host the exhibition till mid-July. Then it will be moved to one of the border district of Belarus, and subsequently the exhibition will continue its travel across Smolensk Oblast'.
